I am over the moon about the new vegan restaurant that just opened in Davis Square, Somerville, Ma, called The Pulse.
I had dinner there last night and just loved it. This is vegan comfort food, not just a bunch of steamed veggies, and everything including the desserts is vegan. We started with the mushroom calamari and it was killer. It was served with this super yummy lemony, creamy dip. It was so wonderful to look at a menu and know that I could order anything I wanted. There is seitan gyros, egplant tofu panini, and ranch salad with tempeh bacon and vegan ranch dressing.They were packed last night and we had to wait for quite a while but it was worth it.

just wanted to put a shout out for another of my favorite eateries, this one in Somerville, Union Square. Block 11 is the sister cafe to Diesel in Davis. I love their artichoke hummus on toasted ciabata bread for breakfast. They also have great vegan sandwiches and salads. They offer tofutti cream cheese as a substitute for goat cheese on sandwiches and also have a couple great tempeh options. They are wonderful and open to suggestions! Of course they have great coffee. Soy cafe con leche is my favorite.
Also, I just got some new booklets for Vegan Outreach. They are really great and available at both studios. Please take as many as you want and pass them out to whomever you think might be interested. I am thinking about pamphleting some local colleges in the fall. Anyone in? Peace out yall, Mimi

Joanne Chang is the owner of Flour Bakery and Myer’s and Chang. Flour Bakery is an amazing bakery and sandwich shop located on Washington Street in Boston’s South End, and on Farnsworth Street in Boston’s Fort Point district. I myself frequently have lunch there! They feature Vegan soups and dinner specials as well! Myers & Chang is “a funky indie diner setting offering Chef/Owner Joanne Chang and Executive Chef Matthew Barros’s very personal interpretation of Chinese, Taiwanese, Thai, and Vietnamese specialties.” Imagine Asian/Fusion Tapas: fantastic small plates of extraordinary asian cooking. There are plenty of Vegetarian and Vegan options that you will adore!

Joanne Chang’s Chocolate Ganache (for frosting chocolate cakes or just eating from the bowl!):
Four 3 oz. bars of dark organic chocolate
6 oz. organic soy milk
Heat milk almost to a boil.
Chop chocolate BARS and place in a bowl.
Pour milk over chocolate in bowl and stir until chocolate is melted.
Adjust to desired taste and thickness accordingly….and enjoy!
